Obbatt saaru / Kattin saaru


Kattin saaru/ Obbatt saaru

This is a kind of rasam prepared along with Obbattu.
When we drian the water from the daal that’s cooked for making holige, its called “Kattu”.

How to make Kattin Saaru?

Ingredients:

  1. Onion – 1
  2. Cloves – 3
  3. Cinnamon – 1 inch
  4. Curry leaves – 5
  5. Green chilly – 4
  6. Jaggery - ½ tsp
  7. tamarind juice – 1 tsp
  8. Coconut (fresh or dry whichever is available) – 1 tbsp
  9. Coriander
  10. Salt as per taste
  11. oil – 2 tsp
  12. Hurna – 3 tsp
  13. Coriander powder - 1/2 tsp

Preparation:

  1. Cut the onion
  2. Heat the oil and then add cloves and cinnamon.
  3. Then add curry leaves, green chilly. Fry the chilly.
  4. Add Onion and Coconut pieces. Fry until onion turns slightly brown.
  5. Grind the ingredients.
  6. In a container add the ground paste and Kattu, the water drained while preparing hurna.
  7. Add jaggery, tamarind ,salt, coriander powder and hurna. Bring to boil.
  8. Add cut coriander.

I have noticed that the taste gets enhanced as we heat the kattin saaru more number of times.
